Searched it, found lots threads with exact same symptom but no one posted back at the end of the thread to say what solved it. Symptom randomly turn key and nothing happens for 4-5 sometimes as much as 10 seconds then it cranks totally normal and fires up. No codes in the system , I have a dry sump so my battery is relocated to the back and I tried swaping batteries (I have a Lithium battery I use on track and a Lead Acid for when the cars sitting around for a while). Starter isn't very old (1500 miles) and has extra heat shield and heat wrap. Screams ignition switch to me or possibly some sort of key communication. Happens randomly and not often enough that trouble shooting (checking voltage at starter) isn't really plausible. Really looking to start a thread with an actual answer so when people have this they will know what to replace. Anyone that's had this Fix it? If so what was it?
Thanks
Sorry to hear you're having starting issues...First, can you please fill out your profile so we know what model year we are dealing with and list your mods, a tune if you have any and your location...we might be neighbors !!...how are you with electrical troubleshooting or are you just trying to get some input here on what it "might" be ??...there is NO one fix for this !!...t could be the ignition switch, clutch pedal or PNP switch if an automatic...could be the TDR relay or maybe starter or starter solenoid...let us know !!

Sorry, In orlando. Car is a 2002 Z06. LS7 swap , dry sump with battery in the rear. Swap has been done for well over a year. And I've had plenty of issues in the past that have required chasing wires on this ole girl. Issue is this is so infrequent and happens for such a short period of time trouble shooting it won't be possible. Clutch switch had crossed my mind but in other cars I've never experienced a Clutch switch causing a delay, usually it works or it doesn't not it takes 3 or 4 seconds to give the signal. This is going to be... whats the most likely culprit and I'll swap it. I did try punching the symptoms into identifix and i guess it's not common enough for anyone to have reported it. I'll try an ignition switch and report back. My concern is if it's key related. Ive seen delayed response from Keys in other cars. But most are quite a bit newer and the keyless style. Never seen a bad chip in the older style key in other cars. I don't know if GM has this issue and that will be fun taking a race car to the dealer for a key.

Well instead of just "firing the parts canon" and trying an ignition switch get your DVOM and test light out…pictures below…remove fuse 14 in the IP fuse box (CRK) and probe the LOWER fuse terminal with a test light connected to a good ground...I use the door mounting bolt…with key in “start” the test light should light immediately when probing the lower fuse terminal…to do a “voltage drop” across the ignition switch set your DVOM on a 1 or 2 volt setting…connect the positive lead of voltmeter to battery POSITIVE and the negative lead to that bottom fuse terminal…crank the engine…you should see a low voltage drop like in the picture…a number like 5 volts means you’re only getting 7 volts or so across the ignition switch to the clutch pedal switch !!…try this first and if you want to drive out this way for this or ANY driveability issue I’d be happy to look at it for you...if voltage drop is good we can further pinpoint your issue…I'm loaded for bear out here...from the simple to most advanced diagnostics !!
Hard to troubleshoot a intermittent problem, you basically have to wait until the problem occurs. The TDR relay in the passenger footwell area is the relay that sends 12v to the starter solenoid. The violet wire at the TDR is the wire that is on the starter solenoid switch terminal, you can check for voltage there instead of trying to connect at the starter
So interestingly enough it progressed into a no start. On the day it did that I noted the battery voltage was low. I put a charger on the battery and it charged up to to what the charger stated as full and 12.5 on my Volt meter. Yet soon as I turned the Key it was 6v. So I swapped in the Lithium battery and I haven't had an issue since it fires up instantly. Have a new starter and new ignition switch sitting on top of the tool box just in case.
