I need to know if taking the adjustable sport tour shocks of and all the electronics if this can cause a proplem with a car dieing in forward and reverse I removed these and put new bilstein shocks on with heads and cam and now I cant drive my car every time I go to take off it dies in forward and reverse I also put a cags on could this also affect something Please help Thanks
Re: Ajustable ride removed big problem need help (97Redflame)
Did you have your PCM reprogrammed after the heads and cam. Just replacing your shocks will not cause the car to die nor will adding the CAGS eliminator, if you had your PCM reprogrammed after the heads and cam it may be as simple as drilling the TB??? need more info???
Re: Ajustable ride removed big problem need help (97Redflame)
Yes, replacing the shocks will do this! When replacing the F45 shocks with Bilstiens, you need to add a 15 watt resistor into the electrical plug, this fools the PCM into believing the electronic shocks are still on. After that you will be fine, just do not turn the adjuster dial on the dash, you will burn out the resistors. I bought a few extra, and carried them in the glove box, in case I was ever stranded somewhere because of this, but it's been about a year now, and no problems! :yesnod: I got my resistors at Radio Shack, only a few dollars, just take one end and stick it in one side of the connector, and the other side to the other side of the connector, and you are set, very simple. You can do a search on here too, it's been talked about before.
Re: Ajustable ride removed big problem need help (alans1)
hmmmmmmmm...I did this a couple of years and was one of the first to do it.
My first C5 was a 97 Coupe with all options including the F45, I had H&C and all the other associated mods. I ripped out all the suspension and replaced it with Bilsteins and VB&P composite springs and poly kits..oh yeah and T1 bars. I never and repeat never had the problem you had (car dying) and no dealership could upprogram the BCM even with all the written documentation. You see the F45 uses 3 different computers to operate correctly (a couple of people have made the claim that a dealership did it, but when I asked them to provide the information in writing with an explanation they never could come through (maybe they just got busy). It is true you can have the F45 option deleted with a Tech 2, but the PCM still sends out a signal and when it does not get that signal back from the shock connectors it gives you the service shocks "maximum speed 80 mph" on your dic..
I measured the resistance of the shocks...you need (4) 15 ohm 25 watt resistors about $4.00. I inserted the resistors and they worked on the street and the race track. I had originally put in some 3 watt ones but I accidently switched the selector tour, sport, perf. from performance and burnt the resistors..if you put the 25 watt ones in, the resistors will survive this and you wont have to replace them...just leave it in performance.
Since all of this......LAPD now offers a simulator for the F45....this is the route I would take if I was eliminating the F45 again...it is a no brainer.
If your car is dying it could be a column lock...I have seen cars do this because of column lock. If it wont idle you may need a hole in the TB.
Good Luck
email me if you have any further questions.
Re: Ajustable ride removed big problem need help (Shinobi'sZ)
Lemme go out on a limb and ask a *stupid* question..... Why remove the F45 shock system?? What is the benefit to going with some other shock absorbers? Just curious. Thx!!! :lurk:
Re: Ajustable ride removed big problem need help (MANNY)
...to add a 15 watt resistor...
15 W?
That´s a holy big one.
You are right, as you can see the time I posted that was at 6.am. before I went to work, I guess I wasnt awake yet, but I did mean 15 ohm, look at Shinobi's write up, he is the one I went off of when I did mine last year, and mine has worked just fine!
Re: Ajustable ride removed big problem need help (Shinobi'sZ)
Ok I know there is 2 plugs per side this is probably a stupid question but do the resistors go in the 3 wire plug or the 2 wire plug and when you do this does your car still read shocks inop or service shocks soon Thanks for the reply
