C5 Muffler loudness ranking
I'm looking for loudness rankings of various mufflers. I have a Flowmaster set on my 98 C5, which has a very deep musclecar sound. After year of daily driving with a deep resonance (especially at 2500rpm), I'm considering replacing them with Stingers.
Here's where I think mufflers rank from reading the posts (Loudest first): (Idle/WOT db numbers added courtesy Scissors suggestion)
- Borla XR-1 ... 90/110 (for kromberg/DsC5)
- SLP Loudmouth
- Flowmaster (2500rpm resonance)
- B&B PRT ... stock+3 / 105 db
- Stinger (upped one rank for DsC5)
- Corsa Indy (Low resonance)
- B&B Route ... ??? / 97db
- GHL (http://www.ghlmotorsports.com/corvette.htm) (Low resonance)
- Magnaflow
- C5 w/A&A mod (https://www.aandacorvette.com/cart/show_items.asp?MainCatID=3 bottom of page)
- Z06 stock
- C5 stock ... ??? / 94 db
Is the ranking order correct?
Will Stingers get rid of my resonance, is there a better choice?

What about the Borla XR-1? The muffler it has on it is questionable to even call it one. Can not wait for the UPS human to deliver mine :D

I believe that it's a pass-by check from 50' with the car at WOT and uphill.

I believe it's just a pipe you weld on to allow some of the exhaust gasses to bypass the muffler.

I find the stock exhaust system (after being broken in at around 5K miles) to be loud enough for me. Be careful what you end up getting, some of those systems will resonate a lot inside and end up driving you crazy. :yesnod:

The safest route for absolutely no resonance is Corsa Indys. Any other course MAY leave you with varying degrees of resonance?
Some people say some of the other systems have no resonance, but the only "louder than stock" system that EVERYONE agrees has no resonance is the Corsa Indy.
Personally I prefer the B&B PRTS but there is disagreement about the resonance (some say no resonance, some say there is some). I have not heard the Stingers, though!
