Hi all.....New vette owner here. Bought a 99 vert. with the original battery ( I assume ) I have noticed that if I let it sit in the garage for 4 or 5 days, the next time I start it up the HUD has lost the settings I had for it and the DIC has lost fuel info., average speed, etc. The stereo, however, still has its' memorized settings and other stuff on the DIC like odometer and oil life are still there......anyone know what might be happening? My first guess is weak battery.....but how come I don't lose memory on all the electronic stuff? Thanks! :skep:
blittle-welcome to the Forum! Sounds like battery. I believe we only need 9V to maintain the PCM. Maybe someone with better knowledge will chime in. :steering:
Thanks for the reply.....back when the weather was decent, I was taking it out for a run at least every other day.....did not have the problem then. Let it sit for 4 or 5 days and ...memory loss! I really do believe it is a battery problem but then again, I'm new to the car and didn't know if perhaps there was something "quirky" about the car or the 99 model that others might be aware of ....... if it is the battery, that pretty well follows the pattern on batteries for me( regardless of the car )- 4 years and then it's time for a new one! Didn't batteries used to last longer??? (the old days!)

If your battery is weak the HUD goes back to the default display which includes the oil level indicator. Also the DIC goes back to the odometer no matter what you had it set on. If a long drive fails to bring the battery back replace it. Mine does this occasionaly if i haven't started in a month or so but comes back, so far, with an overnight battery charge or a long drive.
Thanks Rich....
I think it's new battery time.......mine is behaving exactly like you describe....only it does it after 4 or 5 days instead of a month! Now the big question with probably a dozen different answers.....what battery manufacturer ...... I've always been a diehard fan....but, who knows these days......crap comes in many colors!
If your car tends to sit for days at a time, I would recommend an OPTIMA YELLOW TOP. This battery is awesome and keeps a charge for a loooonnnnnggggg time......
Thanks Rich....

Easy choice for me.
Optima. It's just better technology.
Thanks to all......I ordered a new battery......Ac Delco AGM.....should get it next week! I found other guys haveing similar kinds of problems......I guess that the answer is "drive more." I'm in favor of that!! :yesnod:
Also, if your going to let it sit a lot you might consider a trickle charger. Of course driving it more is much more exciting than trickle charging
