2002 Corvette - AC problems began with drivers side blowing hot air when AC on. Replaced actuator with a Dorman. Still blowing hot air. Took to shop they said a bad control module. Replaced with rebuilt (no new ones available). Then drivers side cold now passenger side hot. Removed dash and replace passenger actuator with Dorman. Passenger side still blowing hot and driver's side blowing cold. Shop checked Freon and it is fine. Vaccum lines have been checked. I am running out of options. Any suggestions?
First any current DTC stored ??…with drivers side hot or warmer and passenger side cold it can be low on Freon but instead of your shop just checking the pressures (which they most likely did) did they do a recovery and then add the correct amount of Freon ??…with a bi directional scan tool which you probably don’t have you can check the HVAC outputs and check the actuator feedback circuit in “counts” as it’s called….voltage can be used instead of these “counts” so you can see if things are working electrically or not…you can check the passenger side motor and see if it is responding to the temp setting on the HVAC head…you’ll have to remove the glovebox and if you look inboard (see pic) you can see the motor splines…see if it rotates as you increase and decrease the temp setting…moving this to Tech !!…also NOT a big fan of Dorman parts !!
Thanks for the response. 1) The shop said the refrigerant was fine. 2) No, the shop told me that the problem was the climate control module located under the radio 3) I did not notice a blinking AC light but will check after responding. 4) Everything I read said to use Dorman for the reason you stated. 5) The shop said it was the Climate Control Module but they could not find one to replace so they did not do anything else except check refrigerant. 6) I actually replaced the driver and the passenger actuators hoping that would solve the problem. They did not mention a code but I will check the codes (I am not that familiar with codes on Corvettes (this is my first one). Since I have had this one this is the first problem I have had.
I will definitely follow your directions concerning the battery and hope that works. Also make sure both are turned to cold.
Thanks for the reply. I thought I had responded but looks like I did not so I will try again. 1) The shop said that the refrigerant was fine 2) Actually I had replace the drivers side actuator before I took it to the shop 3) I did not notice a blinking As light but will check first thing in the morning 4) Everything I researched said to use Dorman for the reason you stated, 5) They said the climate control module (located under the radio was bad) but could not find one to replace it. I found a rebuilt one and replaced it 6) After the module did not fix it I replaced the passenger actuator (that is difficult). The shop did not mention a code and I am not that familiar with the codes on Corvettes (this is my first Corvette and this is the first problem I have had with it).
I am going to try the disconnecting the battery and follow the procedure you suggested and hope it works.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Ur problems r waiting in line. Once u fix this one, be ready to tackle the next one. O, by the way, a would take some auto night classes at ur local college.emphasize electronics.
I appreciate the responses. I did the acuator reset and I was getting cold air from both the driver and passenger sides. I took the car for a two hour drive and this is what is happening. The passenger side blows hot for about twenty minutes then blows cold air for 20 to 35 minutes (I checked there is no set pattern) and then it blows hot air again and after a few minutes changes back to cold air. The driver's side blows cold air all of the time. As I stated earlier, both actuators have been replace, the freon has been checked by a shop. no vacuum leaks, and have replaced the climate control module (it was rebuilt one from Ebay)
Really hard to tell. Could be that an actuator was installed incorrectly. Or, could be a bad hvac controller off of eBay.
if this was my car, and given the amount kd money that you spent at the shop to have a fully functioning AC, I’d take the car back to them and demand that they fix the issue. A shop just can’t throw the kitchen sink at the car on your dime and then give it back to you broken.
probably not the advice you were looking for but I think there are just too many variables.
i assume you don’t have any hvac codes in the dic?
