Default MAFS QUESTION

What is the benefit of taking out the screens from the MAFS. Is there any negative side to this in the long run. Does it make a difference in the 1/4 mile?
And how can the screen be taken off without doing damage to the sensors or anything else?

Default Re: MAFS QUESTION (lawman34203)

The MAF screen was originally installed to "straighten" the airflow into the intake to reduce tubulence to allow the MAF sensors to be more accurate (MAF screen are used in some GM trucks with longer airflow path runs). GM's Z06 engineers finally figured out the air path was short enough to make tubulence a non-issue in the new vettes so they removed it in the '02 model year Z06.

Removing it probably doesn't contribute much to increased performance. One member did a before & after dyno and the gains were very, very small.

I have not had a problem, but some report surging after they removed. The best way to remove it in one piece in order to return to stock if necessary is to take the MAF off the car, and work an x-acto knife slowly around the circumference of the screen. I think there a 4 attachment points around the circumference. Be VERY careful not to touch the fine wires in the MAF.
