i m going to change out plug and wire soon. I read the tech tip section and it mention to put anti-seize compound on the thread. What is it and where can i get it from? can i replace the plug without putting any of this stuff on the plug thread? thanks!
I wouldn't put the plugs in without it! I'm using a 3M copper based antiseize but I heard mixed reviews on here about it. 3M says it's for plugs but several on here swear only to use silver based. Conductvity & what not. I haven't had any problems with the copper based.
I guess there are different kinds, talk to someone at a parts store. You're putting steel plugs into aluminum holes. The anti-seize keeps them from bonding together and making the plugs difficult if not impossible to get out.
Copper vs. silver- it doesn't make any difference. Both conduct very well to form a solid electrical contact 'plug-thread-to-head-thread' I bought a 6 oz jar of copper based stuff from Autozone (or was it Advance Auto?) that says it is good up to 2000 degrees F.
As far as the mixed reviews on the forum, were they saying it let the plugs seize up or did they feel like the elctrical conduction wasn't as good?
I use Permatex(Loctite Corp) Anti-Seize Lubricant P/N 133K
2,000F for all the exhaust and brake parts.
Been using the same 8 oz bottle for decades...
Good stuff for EDD and racing applications. Never let me down :yesnod:
