Help! I want to get everything done right the first time. I am getting the quad tip Stingers and I need to know if I should also get a good X pipe with them? What kind are you suggesting, if you have the Stingers with the X pipe? I have the A4.
I am not very big into the 'popping, snapping" exhaust on de-acceleration. I am also wondering what kind of resonance I can expect, with or without the X pipe? I know that they say no resonance, but to the best of my knowledge, the only system that guarantees it is the Corsas.
 :chevy
from what I've heard, all the x-pipes yield the same results. the difference is that some are complete bolt-on whereas others require spot welding (I think). I have just the stingers, no x-pipe and no resonance here. :D
I currently have the Corsa Pace Car system. No resonance. Also no noise. Way too quiet and I will probably switch over to the Stinger. I have the Bassanti X pipe.
Borla Stingers and an A4, really don't need an X Pipe. Mostly the 6-speed guys get the popping. I have the dual tip borlas and the only time I get a pop is when I go from WOT to No throttle and even then it might be one.
I do get resonance at 1500 RPMs, but it goes away as soon as I get above that. Unfortunately in traffic, my car is constantly at 1500 RPMs. It is a small price to pay for the way it sounds/responds in all other instances.
The x-pipe will probably give you a small gain in HP, maybe as much as 8hp. I have the corsa x-pipe with the dual tip stingers. Great sound but, I still get some poping. The installation was a problem. The flanges on the corsa didn't line up right with the flange on the stingers. Comparing the stock h-pipe with the corsa, the flange on the corsa appeared to be in the correct position. It was the stinger flange that were out of alignment. Borla has been known to have quality problems. Since I had mine done in a muffler shop, they quickly solved the problem by cutting off the flanges and welding the x-pipe to the over axiel pipe. That caused significant problems when I had to replace the clutch a short while later.
The bottom line is I recommend the x-pipe but, beware of possible problems during the install with parts from different vendors.
When I changed my exhaust I went with the Magnaflow X pipe. From all I
read it seemed that it would have the most effect in hp gains. I added it and
the Stingers at the same time. When I went for first drive as the rpm's hit
about 2600 the car seemed to float up to 3200 immediately and so quick I
thought, Oh , crap. Now the clutch is slipping!
It's just that the system seems to really start working at that rpm.
I do get some popping on decelleration but mostly if I am above 2600 rpm
and let off throttle. If poking around town in lower rpm range no popping.
This setup was a complete blot on and no welding involved. Only had to cut
original exhaust right behind cat's.
Fit was excellent, no problems at all and looks great. At WOT it sounds more
like Ferrari screaming. Everyone that hears this system is amazed and loves
the sound.
