Hey guys new here.I have a 2000 C5 and having an issue with the car not firing up the first time hitting the key but after letting up and turning the key again it pops right off. Seems to do it more after driving for awhile and parked for 30 minutes or so. No lights on. Car has 55k miles. Anyone have a direction to go or advice?
The only time I had something similar happen to me, first I cleaned my key, and then I squired CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner in the key hole. That was 5 years ago and never had the issue return. I add the CRC spraying into my 6 month maintenance oversight routine. Hope this simple fix does yours.
I would monitor the fuel pressure when the engine is off, see if it bleeds down. You can try turning the ignition on and waiting for the fuel pump to prime before cranking. If you are losing fuel pressure you want to know where it's going, you can wash out a cylinder of it's an injector.
Thanks for the input guys. I tested fuel pressure and its bleeding off quickly. Narrowed it down to a bad check valve. They don't make the inline replacement anymore but with some research found the updated fuel pump has a built-in check valve. I ordered a Delphi pump and will let you all know how it goes when installed. Thanks again.

can you run ilia through what numbers you were getting on the pressure bleed off and how you narrowed it down to the inline check valve? I need to run the same texts. Thanks!
I put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail and turned the key on but not start 5 times. Pressure went up to 55 psi and watched it go down to 8 psi pretty quickly. It's supposed to hold there. I've been driving the car like this since last summer. Didn't worry about an injector sticking open and washing out the cylinder as it would have made it into the oil by now and it would've caused other issues. On my 2000 it has a check valve in the fuel feed tube coming out of the pump that is no longer available. Took awhile to research it but was informed that the updated pump has a built-in check valve so should be good. I haven't got the new pump in yet to confirm but makes sense to me.
Is this the line you’re talking about? I was able to find a good used one. I need to buy a fuel pressure gauge. I sometimes get long cranks when the car sits overnight. I’ve heard the check valve in this line is known to stick.
Ok guys, just replaced the fuel pump and now the system holds pressure and fires up the first time like it's supposed to so hopefully this helps someone else that has these issues.
Sorry guys I did a victory dance too soon. Still doing the same thing. I believe I got some bad information on the built-in check valve especially after digging into the old one. I don't believe the new pump is any different and it's not a stuck injector so it has to be draining back to the tank. Just wish they still made the replacement inline one. Going to have to rethink this one. It's not that the car can't be driven but a little embarrassing when she doesn't fire the first time. To be continued I guess

I'm pretty sure this is not a common problem that every car will get. Maybe C&S Corvettes, or Vettenuts will sell you a good used one. Or do you have to buy the pump with it? It looks to be a separate part. Another possibility is to run 4 or 5 bottles/cans of Techron/Seafoam/Lucas fuel system cleaner thru the system. Maybe try adding a full container to 1/4-1/3 tank (4-6 gallons) of fuel, and run that concentrated mix thru the line. Maybe you'll get lucky and you'll clean it out that way. Good luck.....
Yeah I might try that. It's external to the fuel pump so might buy an aftermarket check valve and put it somewhere in that line. Thanks for the advice.

How "exactly" did you narrow it down to a bad check valve ??...there are 4 or 5 components that may be bad causing this rapid drop in pressure...this is the easiest way I've found to diagnose this issue...my Mityvac with a 3/8" fuel line fitting...apply 15 psi back to the check valve and the pressure should hold for 1 minute...you will also need the Kent Moore J37287 specialty tool to check the other components or this can be locally made.
Thanks for the info. Besides injectors, check valve, or fuel leak. What other components would you be referring to that could cause the issue?
Injectors, fuel pump, check valve or the fuel filter/pressure regulator….NEVER assume that the part you change is good…it still has to be verified that it is good…I would not assume it is not an injector either…if you don’t have the right diagnostic equipment you’ll just be chasing your tail !!
