I hear swapping to the later fob/tpms/receiver/air pressure sensors will increase the range over the early style.
I have all the parts just have never installed them.
You can also add an aftermarket RKE (I did this) and avoid having to swap all that other stuff and have a huge fob range.

I wasn't referring to the short range being fixed. I was referring to the fact that it loses sync with the car and has to be resynchronized.
A new fob fixed this issue for me but the range still sucked.
