Default Yellow slush…..why?

Went to add oil since the dipstick showed just below the bottom the low small hole. When I opened the cap this is what I found. The head gasket was replaced about 10k miles ago. I have not opened the cap for about 4 month. But the oil in the pan looks normal

Possible that goo is left over from the head gasket leak?

Check this link and see if it applies…

I think you're fine. I've seen this on many internal combustion engines thru the years. Water/condensation is a normal byproduct of combustion. My cap has looked similar, with maybe a bit lighter in color. Looks almost like dark beer head/root beer foam, etc. After a head gasket failure, it's normal to be on the lookout for another failure!! Wipe it off, and see if it returns, but even if it does, you're probably still OK. How does the oil look, colorwise?

This was an engine I installed from a donor 89k mile vette and i had a shop install higher compression heads. Looking through the oil inlet spout, it looks pretty clean the little bit of the inside of the head a that I can see. There is no knocking, engine running smooth. Thanks for the reply

You might check your PCV system and see if it is functioning properly. When mine looked like that the rubber y behind the intake in the PCV lines had disintegrated. After fixing that I no longer have the yellow sludge.

I'd want just a little more reassurance, which I think would come from an oil change, DIY of course. Watch the oil during a full drain, see whether the stream has the familiar dark syrup look. If there are no signs of milkshake, refill feeling sure and certain.

I don't think the smog stuff has anything to do with it. You're fine. Engines do this, ESPECIALLY when driven short distances (5 or 10 miles) when it's cold outside, and the engine doesn't fully warm up. Hell on exhaust systems, too......
