So once again my 1997 coupe which all winter long had me pull the key and wait 10 seconds the first and only the first time I started my car is no longer present. Wondering if anybody else has experienced this phenomenon or could offer an explanation why the pull key wait 20 seconds only happens during winter months, and no I do not want to defeat the steering wheel locking by installing a LMC5.
Yours still has the steering column locked when it does that? Its very dangerous to have it lock up. Someone told me it had to do with weaker battery voltage say 12 volts or 11.7 vs 12.5-12.7 volts but im not so sure mine still did it with the new walmart battery. The LCM5 module wasn't that hard to install. A youtube video i watched a guy put a resistor in two terminals on the backwards sides of the connectors to the BCM and solved the issue.
No, my steering wheel is not locked, it locks and unlocks as it should, I never get the Service Column message just the pull key wait 10 seconds and only during winter months. The Optima redtop battery reads 12.6 volts with a DVM. Since my car is a M6 I don't want to install a LMC5 which would disable the steering wheel locking mechanism.
Its not that bad you got get by that rats nest blower motor and mess with bcm to bypass it.
i just got it as i had my car on a dynojet today solid numbers for an auto small cammed. I ran into some rainy weather and my one dual wiper was trashed i found myself at walmart purchasing rain x expert fit conventional wipers.
Directly leaving walmart i got the pull key wait 10 seconds for the first time since having it corrected thru the tune and vats vss column lock cutoff from 2mph - 200mph and my steering column stays unlocked. Wonder if how the previous owner unlocked it or if there is a GM recall that will install plates to keep the pins from locking the column.
Anyway thought id post as i just ran into this 30 minutes ago at walmart after installing new wipers out in their parking lot.
