Tire question
My Goodyears are about ready for a change. I want to go with Michelin run flats. Does anyone know how if there is more than one choice from Michelin and where is the best place to get them? I want to go with the Pilot series if possible. TIA :flag
I did the Michelin exercise about 6 months ago and chose the Michelin Pilot Sports A/S non run flat. However that tire is available in the original sizes, front and rear, as as ZP (Zero Pressure - Run Flat). I believe that is the only tire available from Michelin as a run flat and in the original tire sizes. It is an all season tire and may not be quite as aggressive as the Pilot Sport performance tire. Unless Michelin's offerings have changed the, Pilot Sport (not to be confused with the Pilot Sport A/S) is not available as a Run Flat. I am happy with the performance of the tires. They are far more quiet, smoother and track much better. I did some checking and found that the local Michelin distributor's price was competitive when the cost to change the tires was factored in. The Michelin dealer did wrestle a bit with the removal of the Goodyears, and actually had to take the wheel tire assemblies to the main store to remove the Goodyears and install the Michelins. Because my car was tied up an extra day he threw in the force balancing. By and large, the change was handled professionally and with appropriate care. The pressure sensors work fine with the Michelins. Caution whoever changes your tires to keep the wheels in the same corners as they originally were. Other wise the sensors will have to be recalibrated, which is a pretty busy process. :seeya
