Instead of spending $300.00 buying and installing a shift kit. Put a few extra dollars with it and buy a Predator. With Predator you can adjust shift points and shift firmness very easily if you don't like the settings unlike a shift kit. You can also adjust your cars gear ratio, timing and check A/F etc. IMHO a much better alternative than just a shift kit.
The harder shifts via programming are not the same as the transgo. The programming increases line pressure to make the shifts firmer while a transgo will actually speed up shifts and makes them firmer by a different method but i can't remember what it is. It's been a while since I had my A4....
According to the Yank Converters (Check their web site under FAQs) a shift kit also increases shift firmness by raising line pressures. This is the main reason why Yank does not recommend shift kits
