Hello all, new battery (Exide) completely discharges overnight. Can hear (but not find) a relay or solenoid, somewhere near front of engine compartment, clicking when charged battery is connected or disconnected. Does anyone know what this mystery load could be ?
The clicking noise is normal when you disconnect or reconnect the battery, I belive it is the headlight module and not the cause of your battery drain down problem. There is a video on the internet that shows how to take millvolt measurements across the fuses and a table with what those values mean in terms of current. There is only one other current drain that could be the cause, and that is shorted alternator diodes.
Thank you. This should prove very helpful. I'll get busy.
Hopefully it's not a bad BCM. That happened to me. It took a brand new battery down to nothing overnight. Not cheap to repair. Could be numerous things........
If you have electrical knowledge and know your way around the instruments used to locate the cause of the battery drain , great. Me, should I every have this issue and not having knowledge or the desire to test lines/circuits, I have a negative battery cable on/off switch waiting to cure the problem that I will use. The only down side is resetting the radio stations that I never listen to.
These cars eat batteries. Except for the C5, I never had a car that I had to replaced 3 batteries in less than 15K.

If you have the memory option, and use that switch to effectively disconnect the battery, the memory clears for your seat position, outside mirrors location, steering wheel positions, as well as the saved radio stations, and possibly the key fob, too. PCM may also need to "relearn" some functions for best performance. It would be best for most if they'd fix whatever is killing the battery, rather than band-aid the situation......

thank you. Good to know. I don't appear to have those memory options. The key fob crapped out years ago. I'll continue to search and use a battery maintainer for now.
