I'm assuming that all the sensors run through the ECM...if not, please advise me.
Would it be possible to reprogram a ECM to delete a parameter/sensor such as TPMS? Would this stop the constant dash info reminder? I've done away with the TPM sensors in my new wheels and the dash info now shows a constant TPM malfunction error. Btw, my DIC is no longer functioning so I have no control whatsoever.

The TPMS delete can be done with a Tech 2 or any similar bidirectional scan tool…the PCM is not involved !!

From other threads I have gathered the Tech 2 only works on '01 - models up. All of the electrical glitches on these models make me less than enthusiastic, especially with no good workarounds.

No will work on any GM OBD2 models….I’ve used mine on a friends 98 a while back.
Would most repair shops have a scan tool that is capable of this or is a "Tech 2" the only option?
A shop should have a higher end bidirectional scan tool and if they don’t they should be selling hot dogs instead of fixing cars !!…my Snap On Verus Pro and Autel can do this !!
First shop I visited said they did not have that capability. I won't waste time with on site visits again...calling around for confirmation. Why do I feel I already know how this is going to pan out?
Funny how people question you on why in the world would you do that. Mostly from folks that grew up never knowing life without TPMS I guess lol. It was just a gimmick from the start as most know the vast majority of consumers have no clue when it comes to car maintenance.

The TMPS sensor was part of the Non-Programmable 416 bits if information in the 1997-2000 PCM, 512K, in 2001 it was moved to the Programmable section of the PCM and a bi-directional scan tool could turn off the sensors input.
A lot of conflicting opinions on this subject...that is troubling. Don't know about any issues that might arise, but would a swap to a later year PCM be feasible?
Another confusing item - Is the mileage recorded in the dash cluster or the PCM?

For 1998 to 2000 the TPMS cannot be disabled. In 2001 the Z06 was introduced which did not have TPMS. So there was an option in the BCM for 2001+ to disable or enable TPMS. This option is not there in the 2000 or older cars.
Any Tech2 can do the change on the 2001+ cars. I do not know about the 3rd party scanners.
