As the title says, I have a 99 with the electric steering wheel that won't come forward. I can move it back just fine, and the only way to get it to come forward is to hit the memory preset. Any ideas?
Just tried it twice and no-go. I can live without it; I was just hoping there was an easy fix.
The reset procedure and cleaning the male and female connectors on the seat plug are the easy fix.
Try disconnecting your battery first. Reconnect it, then do the ignition to "on" then reset procedure.
I see I was on yhe thread attached in 2008 and thats when I learned of this. I've had to do it one or two more times since that time. If memory serves...I dont think it works every first attempt. So try the sequence a few times.
Thanks all. I think it’s the switch as I’ve gone through the “reset” process a few times.
Did you disconnect your battery, inspect and clean the blue plug connector under your seat...then try the reset procedure? I would try all of these free steps before digging into the column to replace the switch..
Also, put your "easy entry/exit" on via your DIC. Does the wheel telescope as it should when exiting or when tapping unlock on the FOB prior to entry?
Just realizing you have a post about your FOB not working. So easy entry won't work. The easy exit should though. IF your telescoping feature itself is still functional.
Just to close the loop, this is fully resolved. After checking the grounds, and replacing a relay, all is operational.
I'm having a similar problem on my '99. Telescoping function works both ways, when I hit the memory seat button, it moves out and when I turn the ignition off, it moves back in. But nothing was happening when I tried to adjust it using the switch. I tried the reset procedure and now it seems to work moving out, but not back in. What connections and where did you check/clean and what relay and where did you replace?
Many times a switch goes bad from never being used. Contacts get dirty and corroded, due to never being "scrubbed" by moving the switch. Most C5 owners with memory function have no need to mess with the switch. I've seen the door lock on a couple of cars freeze up from never having the key inserted and turned. Everyone uses the fob, instead.
