Default Dual valve spring install question

I am in the middle of swapping out my valve springs using a Tick kit that I bought with their stage 2 blower cam and have some questions.

https://www.tickperformance.com/tick...l-lsx-engines/

I am using the compressed air method to hold the valves in place and started with cylinder 1.

I noticed the ends of the springs are different. Which side is at the top with the retainer?

Also, I removed the single piece stock valve stem seals but the tick ones appear to be 2 pieces (flat black locator / stem seal - black or brown)

Using one of Tick's tools, I attempted to seat the valve stem seal against the flat black spring locator by tapping it in. There appears to be a gap and I'm afraid to hit it any harder without clarifying - does this need to sit flush or is a small gap ok?

I'm no expert, but when I did mine the seals did not go all the way down, I'd say 1/8" off. I put assembly lube on the stems, squared up the seals and seated them with the tool with a good push, no hammering. They only go down about a 1/4- 3/8". When you shove it, you feel it seat. The browns on the exhaust, black on the intake valves. I would suggest some assembly lube on the top and bottom of the springs. I juiced everything up even the retaining clips. As for top or bottom I don't think it matters, I put the flush side up. When it's compressed both inner and outer should be seated at both ends. Have fun.

Thanks! I've been searching LS1tech and it seems the gap is normal using the 2 piece stem and locator for the dual springs. From what I've read, BTR and others recommend the 2 piece setup and not the single "top hat" design when using dual springs. And it makes sense now that the orientation of the spring doesn't matter ultimately once it's compressed.

I'll continue on then!
