Default 98-00 EBCM - Can you program out change from V Code to M code? with Tech2 or HPTUNERS

Hi all,

I'm working on a project 98 pace car that I bought. It had a small fire near the EBCM, and the repair shop replaced the whole harness and EBCM. However, they replaced it with a standard M-code, which has no Active handling (JL4). I don't know for sure on the wiring if it was the correct JL4, but it's possible they got it from the same car, in which case it wouldn't be correct. So, I can live without the TCS unit connecting, or I can fix it. I've looked, and obtaining the V coded unit is difficult right now (none on eBay at the moment) and would be expensive if found ($1500-2000). Which leads me to the question - is there any way to get the car to just work with the M-code?

I know it's a ton of work to go from M to V, mainly with adding sensors, but what about the reverse? Can I turn off the JL4 option in a Tech2 or HPTuner? Anyone know what else I'd have to change, possibly a SWPS or something?

Car is very nice, fire did no lasting damage. Paint/Decals on hood are perfect. I did replace the cooling fan and top radiator cover to get rid of some melted plastic, but otherwise the car is very, very nice!

I know there's a write up on switching to the 2nd gen ABS/TC unit, but I'm not really wanting to spend 40+ hours on this. And theoretically, the M-coded unit already installed in the car is in perfectly good shape.

Thank you for all input as I learn more about this system.

Thanks,
Joshua

On my 2000 the Active Handling(JL4) is not enabled under the BCM RPO Special Funtions because I have a M coded EBCM .
If you do the same withe a Tech2 /Tech2win or similar bi direcional scanner I guess it will work fine with a M code EBCM instead of a v code EBCM in your car

OK, now that we know it's an option that can be turned on/off - anyone know what all the differences were between the JL4 option? I already know Pump/Module, likely wiring harness and center console switch, and possibly steering wheel position sensor? Anything else on a backwards basis? I know there were more things added to get to JL4, but not sure if anything else is needed going in reverse.

Thanks OELARSE so much for your help so far!
