So our little Saturday morning Cars and Coffee group has been asked to participate in a Memorial Day Parade and I have a question. (2000 C5 convertible, 6 speed)
My C5 cooling fans work as expected, first coming on low and then going to high when temps get over 235F.
Since the parade route is a few miles of mostly idling, I'm thinking of either having the A/C on (low speed fan enabled) or doing the wire bypass to the fan relay, which keeps the low speed fan on constant.
Just asking what those of you who've done parades before have done. I'm thinking it's nothing to be concerned about but wanted to ask.
Should be fine. I used to take my magnacharger equipped vert in parades with no issues. Be careful to avoid confetti thrown on the route. The fans will suck it into the radiator.

Thanks very much. Yes, it's amazing what gets sucked up into that big vacuum cleaner in the front.
Clean out your radiator fins. Blow compressed air, back-to-front. Do this and your car should be able to idle indefinitely even in Phoenix heat without overheating oil nor coolant. If it cannot idle without overheating, time to start fixing stuff!
I have done several parades. I usually turn on the AC to keep the fans on. Also, I try to shift (6-sp) into neutral whenever possible to avoid excessive time with the clutch partially engaged and excessive clutch wear.
