04 Z06, 73xxx miles. I drove the car to a weekend car show a couple weekends ago. I went to start it to pull it out of the garage to clean it, turned the key, nothing. Have all lights, accesories all work. Worked the clutch a couple times, didn't help. Hooked up my jump box, showed 12.5 V, still would not run the starter. Switched to the battery charger, it analized the battery (5 month old Red Top) at 72% charged, 12.5 V at rest. Switched oit to jump mode, fired right up. Shut it off, tried it a half dozen times, fired right up each time. Ideas, experiences, suggestions appreciated.!
Could be a number of things starting with starter solenoid, ignition switch contacts, clutch safety switch, TDR Theft Detterant Relay, VATS key pellet contacts, and of course loose battery terminals or loose cable connections at the starter solenoid. It will have to fail hard in order to determine what caused it fail to crank initially.
Had those thoughts as well, battery terminals are tight, at least up top. At some point, I did clean up the key pellet, Guess I just wait and see if it happens again.
Ron, several years ago, maybe 4, I had a similar episode happen. When the car finally started and when I got it home, like you, I decided to do the easy stuff first. After checking the battery connections and voltage, cleaning the key, changing to an extra key, I then sprayed CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner into the ignition key hole. I have not had a repeat of the issue. I suspect there was some stuff in the switch that the spraying took care of. I now include spraying the key hole in my yearly maintenance routine.
