one of the fuel modules is culprit. Anyone
know of a way to determine which affects the gauge or do I take a chance on one or the other
By modules you mean the fuel level sending units? The c5 has two tanks the fuel level sending units each send a voltage to the pcm which then sends the appropriate voltage to the fuel gauge. I would try two treatments of Techron complete fuel system cleaner, it should resolve the problem.
In MANY cases, running a bottle or two of Techron fuel additive through the fuel system, cleans off the built-up oxidation on the fuel gauge contacts, which are within the tank. It's the easiest, cheapest thing to try first.
TECHRON to the rescue.....most times! It worked for me. The key thing is to not give up on it too soon!! I almost did!! It took me 6 bottles, and driving to Florida from Michigan. Used a couple bottles just before leaving, then every fillup driving to Florida. About the time I hit the Georgia/Florida border, it started reading pretty decent. By the time I reached my destination, it was fine, but it took a few fillups before I really trusted it again. The gauge has worked perfectly ever since. Sometimes it doesn't work for everyone. I do suspect many may try a bottle or two, and give up. I almost did......
I have a similar issue, used one bottle and it helped a bit.
Can I use 2 bottles at once or use one, drive until low, then use another one on the next fill up?
I've never been a big believer in any kind of liquid additives. But this stuff actually made a difference for me. Best to buy a couple liters and use it all before replacing parts. 1oz per gallon.
I haven't used any in a while. Before running a couple liters through mine, the gauge would never go above 7/8ths.
Now it seems like my passenger side sending unit will read zero (empty) when below 1/2 of a tank. Not a huge problem since that tank will actually be mostly empty after the car's been running for a while. I noticed this when the gauge would go up from just above 1/4 to 1/2 after driving for a while.
Not that it's a fixable problem - the word I've heard is that the sending unit for the passenger side tank has become unobtanium.

Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
