I'd recommend LS3. I might be a bit biased because that's the swap I went with, but the LS3 is probably the easiest, most reliable swap possible (aside from just rebuilding your existing block). LS7s aren't bad engines, but they're not as universal as an LS3. You can make LS7 power from an LS3 for a lot less than the cost of an LS7, and it will be just as reliable if not more so. Just about everything on the LS3 is a bolt-up compatibility thing with the LS6, and the swap can be accomplished over the weekend by a couple of guys who have a reasonable idea of what they're doing.

Agree. Buy the 430hp version, add a small cam. It will run circles around GM’s 495 or 525hp versions.

I bought a bone stock LS3 straight from the GM parts counter. I didn't get the cammed versions. Only mods were a Vararam intake and LG Long Tubes (both left over from the LS6). The new LS3 made 400/400 to the wheels in August in Mississippi on a Mustang dyno. On a Dynojet in more favorable conditions, it probably would make close to 430-450 rwhp. Throw even a mild cam at it and a competent tuner will likely be able to get you close to 500.
