'97 c5 6 speed. I'm changing out the clutch fluid tonight, what do I replace it with? I think someone told me to use standard brake fluid. what's the scoop? what brand/grade/etc.? thanks!

I believe GM specs DOT 3 break fluid so you can't go to wrong using it.
When I replaced my clutch, I replaced with a DOT 3 & 4 compatible synthetic. It's only been in for a week so I can't say anything about its longevity but, it's working fine for the first 125 miles.

replace it with DOT 3 brake fluid..
Are you changing all of it or only whats in the resouvior? I change my res. once a week or so to keep the fluid clean.. Turkey baster works well... just dont get any DOT 3 on the paint.. it will eat right through the clear coat.

Re: changing clutch fluid--what to use? (Red Gump)
Greetings: I believe in order to get at the bleeder for the clutch, you have to take half the car apart. The exhaust system has to come out. Then the Driveline Tunnel Closeout Panel has to be removed (36 bolts..5/16 socket ) This will expose the torque tube. Face the front of the vehicle and put your hand up around the torque tube until you feel the bleeder bolt. Put a 7/16 wrench on the bolt. Have your friend press down on the clutch while you open and then shut the bleeder bolt. Pump up the pedal again and repeat this proceedure many times. The fluid will run down your arm and also into the bellhousing. Add fluid every 3 to 4 times of bleeding process. GM makes a Hydraulic Clutch Fluid, Part #12345347. It is a DOT 3 fluid with additives. Let me know how you make out. Bob NY

I have never done this myself, Corvetteforum use to have a "Tech Tips" all the info I gave you came from there. I just printed it and kept it on file. I did buy the Hydraulic Clutch Fluid from GM. I'm been sucking out the old and adding the new. I'll be having a clutch done in the near furture (Z06, 2002) so I'll be replacing everything that's down there. I haven't had any problem with the new fluid mixing with the old. Bob NY
I use High Performance Brake Fluid, with a 610 boiling point, from NEO.. this is a popular fluid used in stock cars.. It has been perfect for me, and is what Cartek recommends for their aftermarket clutch systems...
I've never once had a sticking or soft pedal, after much abuse, since I went to this fluid...
