Just picked up a 2000 Corvette base/M6 with a blown motor. Swapped in a used motor and its running awesome.
Took it for my first drive Monday and after putting about 60 miles on it, a whine developed coming from the rear end.
The noise is most apparent in any gear with 5-10% "cruising" throttle. At higher loads it seems to get quieter but that may just be it being overcome by the exhaust note.
I decided to change the diff fluid (with synthetic 75w90 including friction additive), and I did notice some small metal pieces coming out of it.
After changing the fluid, there was no change in the noise.
I'm thinking this is probably the ring and pinion worn out.
I have swapped them before but wanted to get the forums opinion before I dove into it and ordered parts.
