My transmission (MN6) is acting up. When I shift 1-2 above 3500 RPMs the car will grind. Below it will drive as normal. All other gears are okay.
My dealer knows the my car and will not warranty and power train problems due to my modifications. I am okay with that for the most part. I went to 3 transmission shops and they all told me about the same story, that the syncos are not effected by the amount of horsepower or torque that the car is producing. This is why I would like the dealer to warranty. Any tranny gurus care to chime in.. Please dont say buy a new tranny cause it only has 25k on this one.
Re: Fighting the dealer... transmission (ICULUKN-C5)
The power dooesnt necc. ruin the trans its speed shifting or release of pedal before in gear will ruin the syncro . Find a tech at the dealer that will repair no ques. asked . I hope you have not been flagged in the computer system by the dealer yet . hplum@erols.com GOOD LUCK

I would contact GM and have them arrange to meet with a field representative. The Dealer does not issue the warranty, the warranty is issued by General Motors, and only a representative can void out parts of a warranty. If GM refuses to have a rep meet with you and explain exactly why your trans is not under warranty, go to the BBB and/or State Auto Board or even the State AG. Many states have different provisions regarding the voiding of a warranty.
In effect, GM must be able to proof that your modification damaged the part you want covered under warranty. Dealers love to tell people they can void a warranty; that's because a dealer can charge anything they want for customer pay repairs; while they are confined to warranty labor for warranty repairs. The last time a dealer told me he was going to void my warranty was the last time I fed someone my attorney's business card. The car manufacturer, when contained by my attorney, admitted the idiot at the dealer had about as much authority to void the warranty as the waitress next door at the restaurant. They not only fixed the problem, but a factory representative came out to check the job to verify it was repaired correctly.
I have no idea if the mods you have performed have or have not affected your trans. I'm just suggesting you get a hold of GM, and get a field service engineer out there to look it over and make the decision. He/she has the right to void certain parts of a warranty, but again, only if they can proof the damaged parts are caused by your modifications.
Re: Fighting the dealer... transmission (WhiteC5Vette)
You might just take it to another dealer and see what they have to say. I know that different dealers around here have different ideas on warranty work. I had my transmission worked on twice under warranty. Of course I don't have the more-obvious mods that you have either. But they have to fix it under warranty if they can't tie in your modifications with the broken part. In other words, they have to fix a brake problem even if you have headers because the two aren't the least bit related.
Re: Fighting the dealer... transmission (FunDriver)
I spoke with the service manager and he said he will goto bat for me on monday and let me know. I think he only told me that because I was in his office during his lunch hour. :D . I wanted to keep a good repore with this guy so when I do need him then I can get good service. But I made it clear that if he didnt assist me in this warranty repair then I will contact GM directly.
I'll keep you posted.
Re: Fighting the dealer... transmission (ICULUKN-C5)
The local Corvette Speed shop in San Diego told me some time ago that the MN6 syncros will fail with over 450hp because they can't pull in properly and need to be hardened.
my syncos were grinding before the N20 anyway... but here is an update.. the dealer said that since my warranty had not been voided from GM that it was his call to fix the car under warranty. He agreed so I will be taking the car in tomorrow so the tech can get an good idea of what parts are needed, to reduce down time.
