Yes, you have a grommet that failed on the shift cable. Most likely it is the one at the shifter end. Though it could also be the transmission end. Have seen both ends fail.
You will need to remove the center console and radio surround to get to the mounting bolts for the shifter. There are instructions out there on how to do this.

Replace Shifter Cable from Under the Car :-)

I gave the video to my mechanic and he made it happen!!
Hopefully this works for you too. I was just glad we didn’t have to remove any part of the interior.
