Default 1998 Remove memory seats

My 1998 has sport seats and the memory option.

I am putting on different aftermarket seats (Corbeau a4) with manual slider rails. I believe the control module for the seat and memory function is part of the driver seat?

Can I retain the memory feature for the mirrors (do not care about steering or radio)? My husband will drive the car occasionally and we have different heights. OTOH we have not had a car with this feature before so it would not be missed too much.

If I remove the memory module completely (scm?) will the mirrors and other car features still work without the memory function?

Is there a guide for removing the power seats and will there be other issues I am not aware of such as coding out the module with a scan tool?

I'm sorry but I did a bit of searching and I guess I don't know what I'm searching for, any help would be appreciated.

Others will probably have more info but I have removed my memory seats a few times (fixed the rocking seat issue) and all you have to do to remove them is un-plug the wire harness and remove the 4 nuts holding the seat down on the rails moving the seat backward and forward as needed. I didn't do any testing with memory with the seat unplugged but you should be able to just unplug the seat from the harness by the outer-rail then play with your memory buttons and see what all works - should be easy enough.

I can't imagine it would prevent the telescoping steering wheel / mirrors and everything else but the seat that saves to memory to stop working but I don't know. If it works that way you could just cap off the wiring harness with some electrical tape and keep it tucked under the seat. Would be an easy way to do it and nobody would ever know the difference.

Unplugging the modules under your seat will effect the telescoping steering wheel function. however, the memory for the mirrors should be fine. I would recommend just rebuilding the oem seats so retain all of the oem features. the corbeua seats also have several fitment issues etc.

FWIW I found out my 98 does not have the power steering column. My passenger seat seems to be in really good shape (the drivers seat looks fine, but something is definitely broken inside) and it still doesn’t have the lateral support I want. A4 was the recommended choice for a combo street and track car. also, this way I can put “furniture” bases on the old seats and use them in the basement lol. Anyways, will test by unplugging to confirm, but this is exactly the functionality I want, so that is very good news

Piggybacking on this thread as I have the same question…

My vehicle was originally equipped with the memory package and sport seats. I recently installed the Corbeau Evolution X seat on Corbeau manual seat sliders. I would like to install whatever is necessary to return of the telescope feature and reconnect the seat belt connector (as I am sure it does something, just not sure what). I plan to reinstall my sport seats for highway trips, so I don’t want to modify my factory seats. Has anyone built their own harness to enable the telescope and function?
