First LS1 Engine rebuild
This is my first LS1 engine rebuild. My question is in the front of the engine block directly above the crankshaft and the front main cap there are two threaded bolt holes. Does anything go there? This engine was out of the car when I got it. My service manual does not show anything. Want to make sure before I put he cover on. Thanks for any help!

Might be holes for a timing chain dampener. Need to see a pic.

That's what I'm thinking, too. Not all the cars got the chain damper, so the holes were unused on some engines.

It did, and yes, it appears that those are the unused damper holes.

You're lucky you have them. Many blocks did not have the holes, and some that did weren't threaded/tapped. As for why, I dont know the protocol......
