Can someone tell me what are these figures at the crank or flywheel?

Assuming a 15% drivetrain loss, you're looking at 376 flywheel hp and 445 ft/lbs of torque. Those are some great numbers.

20% loss on the autos.....so divide 320 by .80 and that's your approximate FWHP....

I've always been told 20% for A4's & 15% for 6 speeds - so 320 RWHP / .80 = 400 Fly Wheel HP --- ahhh how sweet it is ...

Congratulations !! People spend lot's of $$$ trying to get to 400 Fly Wheel HP ...

Sorry I don't buy into these formulas. I had 353 rwhp and changed my gear (3.42) to 3.73 and changed the T/C (PT-2400) to a ST-3500 , my next dyno I had 341 rwhp. Does that mean I lost hp at the flywheel, I don't think so!

The car didn't get slower at the track, it got faster! :yesnod:

Make sure those are the corrected numbers. Uncorrected was significantly higher today. Either way that is some seriously strong torque. Not surprised though based on your last outing at Baytown.

BTW, Mac, didn't get you voice mail till this evening. If you need me, try me again Sunday - I turn my cell phone off at night.

What it means is that because of the changes you made, you now have different losses than a stock car does.

Lowering your gear ratio will result in a lower HP number measured at the rear wheels. This is an accepted fact when measuring force at the rear wheels. Its just like dynoing your car in overdrive. You will get a bigger HP reading. And if you dyno in 2nd it will read lower. Your car didn't loose HP.

Also, look at your TQ figures.

Same thing apples if you went from a 4.10 to a 2.73. You'd see about a 20-40HP gain with no other changes.

Rember your gear is multiplying torque. HP is a measure of acceleration. Lowering your gear ratio means it takes longer to accelerate your rear wheels. Its easier for your motor to perform this work under a load. But this is a no-load situation. So you see it as less power.

My tuner said that every vette that he put 3:42's or 3:73's, or whatever, always dropped in RWHP, but got faster at the track .. I believe this has been debated before on the forum & they finally agreed that going from a 3:42 to a 3:73 would lower your RWHP - sometimes by quite a bit ...

So, flywheel (Crank) hp can not be determined by a generic formula and adding 20% to rear wheel horsepower for the A4 and 15% for the M6!!!!! Seems to me, there are many more factors involved in determining Flywheel hp. :yesnod: :yesnod:

Hope you guys get, what I am attemping to put into prospective.

If you add cold air with an intake (such as a Vortex), I would think the flywheel hp would increase and also rear wheel hp. But if you change to a taller gear, the rwhp should read less and the flywheel hp should remain the same.

The 3.73 changed your final drive ratio and doesn't give the same numbers as it did with the stock rearend, I changed to 390s on my M6 and it cost me about 5% on the dyno but is much quicker.

A dyno pull in 2nd gear showed 285 hp, in 3rd I pulled 301hp.
