I'm glad you figured out how to clear and read codes. I also wish I had some of the $$ some unscrupulous shops have made off of owners with bad gas caps that triggered a CEL!! Can you imagine how much $$ there is in something that is so simple to fix? Lets say an unscrupulous shop employee has a car identical to the guy's car that needs a gas cap. But the employee's car needs a new PCM. Said employee buys the guy a new gas cap, but charges him for a new PCM!! The customer pays the $750 for a new PCM (which ends up in the employee's car!!), his car now has no codes, and he smiles while driving off into the distance. But the employee's smile is much larger!!!

As I stated elsewhere, like Trump or not, right after his inauguration, he was spot on when he stated "The world is a mess, folks." Have you never seen the 60 minute expose' on ripoff shops, who squirt oil on shock absorbers, then bring the owner out and tell them they need new shocks? Ripoff shops are everywhere, including GM dealers, with whom I've experienced it first hand, at a Florida Cadillac dealer, of all places.....As with EVERYTHING, buyer beware!!!

Not at all. Just speaking the truth. To trust auto repair shops is inviting a fleecing. I realize there are probably more good ones than bad ones, but I stand by what I stated. I was pretty upset when I found out my then 85 year old father-in-law paid just over $4,000.00 (in 2007 $$) to a transmission repair shop in Grand Rapids, Michigan!!! I knew the BRAND NEW trans for the car was about $1,800.00 from GM, with a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty, so what would you call it? Nothing wrong with dealers, or any shop, making money. Thats why they're in business. Making money, and ripping people off, are two different things......
