Welcome to the forum, have never heard of this happening. Sounds like maybe the car jumped a curb some where along the way.

look for other damage, are you sure it wasnt the plastic endlinks ?? They went to aluminum in 2002.

Hello recon79

WELCOME to the platform and marketplace of real CORVETTE-Enthusiasts.
:smash:      :smash:
I hope you will have much pleasure as I have as well in participating and sharing the ultimate Passion with this famous C-Forum, carrying Members from all over the Planet. You might find lots of friends infected by the same uncurable virus : CORVETTEs.

Now as to your inquiry : I only could join the pre-diagnosis of my fore-posters. May be the Owner before you had some unfriendly contact with curbs (?), or even to the worsed : some bad accident damaging the chassis components/frame.

I highly recommend you, just for safety reasons, to eventually execute an overall chassis/steering-geometry/alignment-check of all four edges (tire-shop or alignment-shop......this would not cost you a fortune).

I do not hope for unwanted surprises.........therefore GOOD LUCK to you !!. :blueangel:
Would you be ready to report here the foregoing results from your investigation - just for interest ?

Joe.

Welcome to the forum ! Sounds suspiciously like accident damage to me too. Definitely check out the rest of the car for damage - does the steering feel smooth going from lock to lock ? I'd have the alignment checked too.

If the sway bar is the only part damaged I'd take this as a great opportunity to upgrade to a Z06 sway bay. It's easy to do and the supporting dealers such as Ken Fichtner will be able to sort you out for a good price.

 ...sounds like the bar took quite a bit of force in order to cause that much damage...not the normal driving scenario. I agree with the others, check out this car very carefully. In the mean time "Welcome to the Forum!" :seeya

Thanks for all the info, I took the her to another dealer who is a friend of mine and we could find no other probloms. under car is clean I have talked to the old owner all he said is that is driveway has a steep angle going up or down and would sometimes scrape the skid rails. you all are very good to a new vette on the block.

Hi Recon. Welcome to the forum! It's a great place for Vette owners to share information and experiences. How sure are you that it is the sway bar that is cracked and splintering? It's difficult to see how a sway bar could splinter. The composite leaf spring on the other hand could exhibit such symptoms. Sounds like all is well now and you can enjoy the drive. Good luck.

First, welcome.

The sway bar was cracked and splintered not bent? That is a bit weird. It is not normal. They will occasionally get loose (as mine have done after a few track events), but a turn of the nuts and you're back in biz. You don't need to worry about them breaking unless you hit something.
