Default Help w/ code P0174 please! Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

OK

Car has less than 6K miles on it - had it 15 months.
Pretty much babied - no rain, minimal use so far.

Yesterday I missed a large speed bump & used my frame savers while running around town.

About three starts later under WOT w/ tires squealing :) , check engine light comes on . I checked codes and only found P0174 (Fuel Trim System Lean bank 2-B).

I checked underside - no loose wires although one post cat O2 sensor on pass side has partially frayed covering (oops got too close w/ heat torch).

Pertinent mods are as follows:
Vortex
Granatelli MAF
Bridge + coupler
BPP Throttle Body
TPIS LT's (pre cats removed only)
Magnaflow x-pipe + exhaust

This is the first time the check engine light has ever come on.

I drove it home slowly & observed no other unusual behavior. I reset the codes tonight to get rid of the check engine light. I'll have to wait & see if they pop up again.

My thoughts are with the current mods the engine should be running richer due to the intake mods. Correct (more air = increased fuel delivery)? I thought the car has smelled a little rich from the exhaust since the headers went on. I don't know if this is from removal of pre-cats or the PCM accommodating the conditions present. Does anyone have any other thoughts?

This is still essentially a new car and I don't want to do any real damage to the engine. I also don't really want to sacrifice any mileage (even though I don't drive it much). Imminent war doesn't seem to help w/ gas prices. :mad I've contemplated getting the car tuned at this point, but really want to hold out for some cash & bigger mods (but I thought I should use a little more warranty before I do that.)

Any info suggestions are certainly appreciated! :seeya

You should check your connections on your vortex and your airbridge. You probably have a leak. A loose clamp or a hole in your airbridge can set this code. I have had this code and had a leak, and so has one of my friends.
Start there first. If you are sure this is not your problem after checking report back. Maybe another forum member can help. Report back reguardless so we know what happens. Good luck!

Jaime,
I am emailing you service manual pages covering P0174. The code is set when the long term fuel trim exceeds +23%. Did the code return after you reset? The air leakage possibilities that SAXN8R mentions are a good starting point to track down the reason for this code. Let us know what you find. Good luck.

Granatelli MAF may of caused it. Put your stock maf back on and sell the Maf. Most likely you won't have the code again.

Also autotap your car.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've checked all wiring around the headers/exhaust/sensors & all connections. Everything seems secure but I'm gonna go over it once again to make sure.

When the check engine light illuminates, does it mean that the diagnostic test has failed twice consecutively? under the same conditions? Does this mean that I'm only running lean at WOT?

I've been unable to drive the car much since resetting the code. It's not a daily driver. I'll keep the post open & let everyone know what happens.
Maybe the maf is causing it... I'll keep playing.

Thanks again for the posts.
