"Charge system fault"
Hi my name is Ron, I have a 2000 C5 and I keep getting "Charge system fault" on the (DIC)..LOL I had the charging system checked out and all is well but they found out I have an Alternator for a Z06 when I should have an Alternator for an LS1. Could this be causing my Charge system fault alert?

On my 2001 the only time I ever saw "Charge System Fault" on the DIC was when I tried replacing alternators. Took me several alternators before I found one that would work reliably. Tried having my original Valeo rebuilt locally first, but they said it was toast.

My alternator was replaced quite a few years ago by a rebuilt car quest product. It’s been fine all these years. My battery was dead back in March or April 2022, charged battery, got the charge system fault after start up, cleared the codes. It’s been fine all summer. It could be your alternator

Check your battery volts while driving. At idle you should be above 13.0 or 13.5 volts, something like that. When I did the alternator years ago, battery volts were dipping under 12.0 at idle.

The message is just there as a nag because you switched from the OEM Valeo.
When I upgraded to a Mechman 175 amp polished alternator, Vengeance Racing was able to go in with HP Tuners and turn the message off.

My alternator was failing so I had it rebuilt by a local guy and I had the charge system fault message after that, voltage was fine but the nuisance message would come and go while driving.
