This job is a royal PITA. I'm on round 2. First job with rhino glue lasted about 7 years. This is current situation pic so I can post back later on how round 2 goes. It won't be as nice as round 1 because extra dried glue is around but if I can seal it for 5 more years then I'll get a new top!

interesting setup. My glass finally fell off completely last weekend while on PCH but I knew it was about to go and I just waited. That's not bad you got 7 years out of it. My top is still in good condition but I even thought about just replacing it with another "Twillfast" if that's what the OEM material is called.

I used 3m window weld and you see how it oozed out after pressing the fabric. I tried to used popsicle sticks to clean up but nope. It's like trying to move tar. Way easier to clean up and trim after you let it set for 45 min with a razor blade.

The orange and black suction cups are tied with twine that's going over the trunk lid and wrapped onto two 25lb dumbbells. This is just to lift the glass. Dumbbells are in trunk. YES those are two pillows inside keeping pressure on the glass.

The silver dual suction cup is tied to the red dual suction cups to align the glass in place. This is the last time I buy those single suction cups from HF as two sets of 3 DO NOT even work. They SUCK but not on glass.

I couldn't have explained it much more thoroughly. I just cleaned both surfaces real well first, and the rest is in my post. I was VERY CAREFUL applying the glue, because I learned the hard way, long ago, that if youre careful roughing something in, like drywall mudding, finishing is much easier when you don't have excess mud (or window glue!) slopped everywhere. I used a razor blade, but in very few places. I didnt tape the fabric to protect it, because I knew I'd be more careful without it. I was afraid to use the blade much, because I figured it could scratch the glass. Maybe I got lucky, but I really put a LOT of thought into it beforehand. Actually, I have 39,000 miles on the repair, not 30,000. I took it thru a high qualitycar wash (not touchless) recently, to check for leaks. Thankfully, there were none...

EDIT!! Even though I also mentioned it in my post, this job goes MUCH SMOOTHER if you catch it BEFORE it falls out. As soon as my wife noticed it, we turned around, and headed for home. I robbed some shower suction cups from our bathroom, and then went to WalMart for new ones. I think it saves a lot of time, and effort, if you can secure the window before it falls. If you dont get it lined up properly, and have a rear defogger, the lines will be on a slight angle, and maybe off center. Figured the factory had it in right, so thats why getting it secured quickly was key for me. Just sayin......

The only difficult part of the job is aligning the glass in place. Razor blade works perfect for trimming.

First pass of trimming the excess. Much easier than I thought.

Alignment would be most difficult. This is why I suggested doing this as soon as the owner notices its coming loose, because you can use the factory alignment. One it's completely off, you'll have a harder time aligning it, and the rear window defroster can be damaged if the glass falls off completely.
NOTE!!!! Be prepared for a shock if and when you see it!! My wife saw it first. I about crapped when she casually said "oh look, the rear window is falling out"......Uh, yeah.....

REar window is now fixed and no leaks. Now that I think of it, the alignment isn't difficult but somewhat time consuming for a first timer.
