Default Rear main leak.

Rear main leak has started at the plate as the mechanic put it.
I was noticing more and more oil in the driveway in the past couple of weeks.
I trust him and his judgement since he became my mechanic a few years ago, and he takes care of all 4 of my cars.
He quoted $900 to fix including parts. reasonable?
I gave the okay to do the job since one thing I cannot stand is any kind of leak on my cars.

Considering that the whole drive train has to come out that's not bad at all.. Are you sure he knows what he is getting into?
Is he sure it's not the cam or oil pressure sensor?

Yeah. He's done them before. He sent me a video where the leak was. You can see the trickle at the cover only when the engine is running.

If its a 6mt, then you might as well throw a clutch kit and remote bleeder in there while it's opened up.

Twenty years ago, $900 would've been in the ballpark, maybe even on cheap labor side. $900 for this job in 2022 is a damn good price!! I'm agreeing with the post that asked you if he was sure he 'knew what he was getting into?' I have a lift, and I'm not sure I'd do this job for $900. It's pretty labor intensive. This is one of those sort of rare occasions that the part costs $15-$25, but the labor is super high. I wish you luck, but if the guy is qualified, I think $900 parts and labor is a damn good price. If you ever plan on adding a higher stall converter, there'll never be a better time. I recommend Yank. My .02....

He is a certified ASE tech that has been working for himself at his house with a huge 2 lift garage next to it with a business license and insurance for the past 6 or 7 years.
Before that, he worked for Honda, Chevy, Dodge, and BMW. He's done some major work for me in the past on multiple cars and his rates have always been reasonable, you just need to wait a while to get your car in to get it worked on.
I usually just call and get on the list.

Well, it sounds like he is qualified. I think $900 is a pretty cheap price. If I was younger, I'd probably do it myself, but only if I had a friend to assist me, which is tough, because I'm in a fairly remote area. Closest relatives are quite a distance. I wish you luck........

Car is done. Everything worked out perfect. No leaks, no funny noises. Oil pressure went up a few lbs after the repair. He said that was a good thing.
I have not picked up the car yet. He did a lot to it and waiting on some more parts delivery tomorrow.
- rear main kit.
- installed a X-Pipe.
- Changed all the fluids. well, rear, trans, and of course oil and filter. Trans pan was leaking anyway.
- Changed all the shocks. I installed Z51 shocks. Car is not a Z51.
- installed new LED with sweeping turn signals front corner lights.
- changed rear outer tie rods.
- waiting on the rear control arm bushing kit. delivery scheduled for tomorrow. with USPS , you never know.

- Coming up next: after that:
- an Alignment
- going to a friend that is fixing my fallen HUD
- He is also fixing my dim HVAC display.
- Then it comes back to me for the Pioneer Radio upgrade. Doing that myself.

That should sort it all out and be ready for the next 20 years.
