Working on my project 1998. Came to me running and driving, but cosmetic issues and wiring issues. It had lambo hinges (hate those) and the door bellows had been trimmed on each side - which gave rodents an open opportunity to gnaw the body wiring harness in the door jamb that the door harness on the passenger side plugs into. It had aftermarket fixed lights, but the guy still had the original headlight buckets. I removed the aftermarket lights, removed both fenders, and reinstalled the headlights. I can turn on the headlights and they both pop up if I manually roll them down first. None of the headlights function. Daytime running lights burn, interior lights burn, all other lights except the high and low beam work. I downloaded a tutorial on the headlight system from here on the forum, and it has schematics and wiring diagrams. I pulled all four bulbs, verified they are getting a good ground. With the bulbs out, the power wires (green and yellow) are deader than a hammer. I started at the fuses in the underhood fuse box (8,9,10 & 12) and they were good but also dead as a hammer and were not being supplied with voltage. I went to the other side of the schematic and checked the main circuit breaker (52 in the same strip as the Maxi fuses). Out of abundance of caution I even substituted a 20A Maxi fuse there. It is getting power to and through that position. The only thing in between is wire, connections, and the headlight switch. I will have to gain access to the headlight switch connector and see if it is receiving power but haven't got that far yet. I see pictures and there is a fairly long harness for the headlight switch - where is the connector on it? Has anyone experienced similar problem as this and what did you find?

Problem solved, with better results than I expected. I took the kick panel down under the steering column, and backprobed the two red wires and found 12V+ there. I unplugged the connection, and found the two pins that feed the headlights OUT of the switch bent over to the side. I fished the body harness back over the metal bar slightly, carefully bent the pins back and plugged the multifunction switch plug back up. Voila, working lights again and I was rewarded by both headlight doors opening and closing properly. I did have to turn one of the bumpers around on one of the headlight doors as it would lock up from overtraveling (groove in the bumper allowed it to overtravel). Best guess is someone changed the multifunction switch in the past and didn't plug it up right and could not tell as the body harness plug is firmly in a tight spot that you can't see well. I am guessing that's why the guy gave up on the car - he had installed fixed headlights that I guess never worked. I can move on to fixing the body harness to door harness connection now. Once that's fixed I can put the fenders on the front and drive it again.

Check your rubber stops for the mechanism. A missing or broken one will allow the motor to overtravel and sometimes jam up.
Easy fix and very cheap. You should have 2 on each side. One on the up travel and one on the down travel.
