I'm looking for DIY mods, not a turnkey service. So if you could list the mods you people have done to reach the 500rwhp mark I would appreciate it! I just want to see if this goal is realistic for me or if I will disappoint myself. I made 524 rwhp on my LT1 but it failed emissions like the gas guzzling horse it was. Definitely need to make this LS1 project street legal, but I would really like the same power levels!!!
It is doable for about 6-7k doing the work yourself. See my sig. That is about what I have spent. The reliability is questionable though, I’m still working on the tune and a few other issues. The roots style blowers will most likely not get you there, you probably need to go centrifugal. I started out with a goal of 500hp for 5k, but I've pretty much given up on keeping it cheap now. You’re just going to end up breaking things and needing more stuff than you ever imagined when you get that much HP. I've pretty much accepted the fact that I'll probably end up doing forged internals before it is all said and done. I never thought I would actually be thinking about getting a spare motor for this car. It's almost like a sickness, be careful, you will probably end up spending way more than you originally planned.

truer words were never spoken, brother QuckSilver2002
CNC ported cylinder heads
GT2-3 camshaft
Two true ball bearing turbochargers
Two high efficiency air to air chargecoolers
Custom molded Samco silicone air ducts
4 into 1 custom exhaust manifolds
Two turbo outlet adapters
Turbocharger scavenge pump
Turbo oil drain reservoir
Two K&N 360 degree conical air filters
Heat shields and stainless clamps
Professional installation, testing and tuning
Corsa stainless steel exhaust system
Chassis dyno report
2 year/24,000 mile warranty
These packages usually leave with 500-505 RWHP and have the manners of
a bone stock car until you need more.
Like I said... don't want NOS. And a 200hp shot is a little much for stock pistons!!
ChrisNJC5 - you really think I could reach my goal without p&p heads? If so that would be great! $1500+ for smoothing out some metal has never sat right with me before... :U

I know it will.. Give me a buzz if you have any questions at all.. :seeya :seeya
Very mild blower cam, stock heads, headers and a supercharger and 500 is no problem with perfect drivability.. :) :)
Could be done. . .but without the CNC heads, you'll end up with more boost, which seems like it'd wear the engine out quicker...maybe not...
It seems to me that if you want 500 at the wheels, you should plan on CNC heads at minimum...then a s/c. I think with the right planning you could get 500 with the magnuson setup on CNC heads and it would have great driveability. HOWEVER, remember that 500 is defined as the limit of what's reliable on a stock bottom, so you'll likely end up messing it up. IE< PLAN ON SPENDING MORE MONEY DOWN THE ROAD.
oh yeah, and while you're doing the heads, I should have mentioned, you should switch to the LS6 Heads with 02 Valves, Dual Springs, Tit. Retainers, a full set of LT Headers, X pipe, no cats, catback exhaust, new air intake, LS6 Intake Manifold, S/C cam, and a blower (magnuson or ati; note magnuson will not need LS6 intake manifold).
Note, LS6's with Headers, Air intake, and magnuson are hitting 460 reliably. Add a set of ported heads, a slightly more aggressive cam, etc and you should be pretty good...
Sounds sweet guys! Thanks for the input. I think I'll do the items PaceThis mentioned except for the LS6 heads (poor $/hp ratio IMHO), and no cats (emission ****'s). Hopefully I can go 2-3 years with that setup without blowing the stock bottom end. I squeaked by on my S/C LT1 for a year before it went boom, maybe I will have better luck this time around. :hurray:

You do not need to CNC the heads to reach the aformentioned goal of 500 rwhp. I would only run 7 lbs of boost through a stock bottom end. :seeya :seeya
There are guys running 322 rwhp on stock V6 mustang bottom ends, 11# Procharger kit with a '99+ V6 Mustang engine (stock HP ~190 at the flywheel). Here is what that particular car had.
11# ProCharger kit (we saw 13# at 6000)
42#s injectors
Pro-M 75mm
255 pump
JBA shorties
MAC high flow cats
Flowmasters
5 spd
I think the procharger site claims about 540 hp (crank I assume) for the LS1 setup. Do some more work with exhaust, cam, etc. and I bet you see over 500 rwhp for around 6K.
