I just discovered some old postings that referred to the "anti venom" modification. I never heard of this before and I'm curious.
What exactly does the modification do? I know there is a roller ball that compresses and consequently effects the feel of the shift. I've never thought much of the way the shifter feels, so what I can I expect if I make a change?
Also, Some had added one copper washer, while others have added two. Is this just a personal feel thing?
Lastly, does the car need to be moving to feel the difference? Can you make the mod and run through the gears in your garage and feel whether a second shim is too much or not enough?
It lessens the centering spring pressure of the shifter. It's best when done in conjunction with a short shifter like a Hurst or MGW that has it's own centering spring.
One or two shims are personal preference. Whatever feels better to the driver.

I used 2 washers on mine and it really made it much easier to shift. What also helped was greasing the shaft in the shifter box. I have a short shifter so those two things made it much easier to shift. You can feel the difference in shifting when you are not moving.
I just did this mod last week. Added 2 washers (no need for copper) and it made it easier to shift. You are basically shimming out the spring.
Unfortunately my shifter is too tight side to side and it won't fix that.
Here's the washers (actually drain plug seals) I used for the anti-venom mod to lighten up the effort needed to shift my MTI Six-shooter shifter that was installed by the previous owner. I used both and it helped a bit. Dorman 65277 from Autozone.
I put 2 washers in my T56 in my C6. Didn't feel any less notchy, but it did cause it to hit a dead stop shifting from 2nd to 3rd.
Not every time but occasionally. Not sure but I think it was hitting the internal gate between 3rd and 5th.
With an MGW sifter and lower box and Amsoil Torque Drive fluid, it can be shifted with one finger with no anti venom mod.
Single washer installed and I noticed a nylon washer that came off in pieces. I did a "dry shift" in the garage and could not tell much but I'll take it for a drive and see what happens.
BTW.... I read all the posting and videos I could find on the anti venom mod and the consensus is a 50/50 split on either one or two washers.
I spent some time driving with the single washer today- I must not have a sensitive feel, as I could not tell a big difference, but certainly not worse. Shifting into first was occasionally slightly and I'm aware of the placebo effect now that I'm super aware of the shifting feel.
The Cowboys were kicking the Bears ***, so I went out and swapped in/out for a second washer. About a 10 minute job with the hardest part being the positioning of the jack stand on the rear diff support.
I went out for a quick ride and again, I could not feel much difference other than the shifter went into first a little easier. Reverse seems to have a small "hump" that you need to push through but I figured it is a safety thing.
I'll live with the second one for a while and see if it grows on me.
