Default Battery tender clamps

Just got my first battery tender and upon hooking it up the battery, terminal clamps are pretty much made for a top large terminal. Found just a slice on the side terminals to hook it on but not happy with it. What would you all do change the connections to something smaller or try to flatten them out, if possible for a better fit.

I've had the Tender jr. for 2 years. I use the clamps on the side mount terminals. I leave them on at all times, just unplug/plug in the tender when using the car. I've never had a problem with them coming off. They work great for me....

Thanks, the terminals on the side are small and I’m just able to catch the bigger part of them. I can’t hook it to the actual battery bolts.

You could always change the clamps for something like these

I used the other (ring eye) cable that came with the battery tender. Just wired it directly in, extended those wires so that the plug would be just inside the front bumper. I don't have to open the hood to plug it in.

YES!!! This!!^^^^^ Mine came with the clamps AND a 2 eyelet plug in. I can see how they could be bolted to the terminals. OP-Didn't your Tender come with the 2 eyelet plug?

This doesn’t need to clamp down hard. There’s very little current. That said, there’s no harm in adding bigger clamps, or using eyelet and an in line connector.

If you want to add an SAE connector from a Battery Tender extension cord, you will need these to connect to the eyelet/battery cord. You only need these if you add an extension cable.

Autozone, Ace Hardware, etc. carry replacement side terminal bolts that have a separate center bolt for easy addition of the ring terminals or other accessories.

Had the same problem with my Battery Tender clamps. Was going though some older parts/junk box and found an older Schumacher charger/maintainer I no longer use. Noticed it had the same size clamps as the Tender's but with more aggressive pointed jaws that would hold better on the small 5/16"/8mm bolt heads on a side terminal connection. I couldn't just unplugged the Schumacher cable end and plug it into the Tender cable because the polarity was opposite on the Schumacher cable from the Tender's cable.
So I removed the clamps from the Battery Tender and Schumacher cables. Then soldered the Schumacher clamps on to the Tender cable wires. Now the clamps stay put.

Then, as always, a day or so later I found an easier fix. Requires just two 3/8"-16 X 1" bolts and two 3/8"-16 nuts:
