Why won’t my fob program?
I just got a new DIC and cluster installed and I watched a video on YouTube on how to program your remotes and I can’t get the car to read them. The fobs were not working when I bought the car and the DIC buttons weren’t working as well. The dash issue has been fixed and I’m getting complete read outs, but I just can’t seem to get the fobs to register. And yes, I just put brand new energizer batteries in both. Anyone have any suggestions?
Also, my mileage doesn’t match the new odometer anymore and I was told by the dealer that the place that GM has that reprograms your odometer is no longer in service. So am I to understand that the mileage goes with the dash and not with the car’s computer? That’s the dumbest damn thing I’ve ever heard. Any suggestions on this too?

gauge cluster has to be reprogrammed to match the car's mileage after swapping it out.
and no magnets needed for programming door remotes (that's for tire sensors)... but the two do operate through the same module behind the seat.

Yeah, that’s the thing… The guy told me at an actual GM dealership that nobody reprograms those anymore so it’s not possible to even get it done. I already knew it needed to be reprogrammed. I was told they no longer can be. I was basically asking if someone is going to call BS on what the dealership said.

It’s a 98. The number on one fob matches the correct part number for a 98 (Original fob) and the other fob matches the correct GM number. they both look identical. They are the right ones. I tried multiple times to sync them as per the video on YouTube. No success. But as I stated above, I’m going to sell the car so I’ve decided not to worry much about it anymore.
And as far as the cluster goes… Even if I could get it done, I’m betting it would have to be removed from the vehicle, and I’m not about to do that again.

My 98 fob has the passive switch. The later ones don't. (they do NOT look the same) You can check the fob with a tpms tool, or at least the one I have. It will tell you the signal and battery level.
FWIW every car I've ever seen the milage is stored in the instrument panel, even going back to the 80s with analog odometers.
