What is the orange wire?
I talked to the OP earlier today since it’s faster than going back and forth on the Forum…I had him remove both splice pack “combs” and jumper the BCM to PCM data wires and the car started and ran normally….the best way to see the data line is with a scope looking for a 0-7 volt square wave but with a DVOM all you’ll see is less than 1 volt which will be fluctuating…no data line showed a short to power but he saw 0 volts on the radio and EBCM…the radio data line is the orange wire on the splice pack…tomorrow he will check those 2 wires again….I think he said he was seeing a fluctuating voltage again on the orange radio data wire so it may just be the EBCM at fault…he will just perform a “short to ground” check again tomorrow with the ohm meter….hopefully he will have the faulty wire or module identified !!

I want to so thank C5 DIAG for all his help. I learned so much from this process.

After all of the diagnosing of the car (read message from C5 Diag above) and coming up with more questions I went and pulled out the new stereo and the wiring harness that Crutchfield made me and then the car ran fine so I called Crutchfield to talk to their tech person, Evan was her name, and she was very nice and helpful. Seems that when I put the stereo in and got the codes they stayed in there even when I tried to clear them. So here is what they sent me and I didn't even have to go to step 5 it worked. So even though I am very thankful for the knowledge I received, i am more thankful that my car is up and running. heheh Troubleshooting Steps:
  1. Unplug the radio and disconnect the battery for a minimum for 15 minutes to let all the power and data drain.
  2. Reconnect the battery.
  3. Plug in the radio but wait at least 3 minutes before attempting to start the car.
  4. Start the car and wait for the radio to come on (if it doesn’t come on within 60 seconds: turn the car off, unplug the radio, open and close the drivers door, wait for the car to go to sleep, plug everything back in and try again.)
  5. Once the radio comes on, turn the car off and open and close the driver’s door.
  6. Turn the key back on.

So it looks like the XSVI was screwing up the databus. Interesting that it could do that, then fix itself. It seems like Crutchfield gave the OP instructions for resetting the PCM and the XSVI. He was reading a short on the databus. That would cause the no start. I suspect that he had, or may still have, a potential short somewhere in the radio wiring harness. Maybe FOD. GMs decision to not separate a utility databus from the critical databus is interesting.

Yes !!…either way Power or ground was back feeding onto the data line causing his issue…don’t see how Crutchfield 6 steps fixed this but I’m no electronics expert.
