I have my black 99 in storage for the winter. She NEEDS new tires so I took the wheels off to take into Discount Tire. I've had the wheels off a couple of weeks waiting on the tires to arrive. I just happened to notice this today....
Those are a wear item, they probably all need replaced. Mine make noise over bumps, I just need to get off my *** and install the adjustables that I have.
Thanks for the information.
They are not the plastic ones, they are the metal ones.
Damn, those are cheap. Sweet!
Anything I need to know to install the new ones?
It almost looks like the bar is upside down or has some issue. The links should be fairly straight inline when installed. Check and make sure. The bar pulling the links on an angle will make them fail.

Could be? The sway bars were installed prior to me buying the car like 5 years ago???
'm guessing this happened after I removed the wheels but I did not hear them fail so I'm thinking they just popped sometime in the past couple weeks.
The bar appears to be right-side up. If the center across the cradle from the rear is "down" and the arms are "up" then it is correct.
Those are the aluminum links. Just old and worn out. With the wheels off the car and the car presumably up on jacks the end-links and your tie rods are the first suspension pieces to resist the weight of the suspension and spring/shock pressing down in a further range of travel than when the car is on the wheels. Being pressed / deformed slightly out of their normal angles and being worn out, they simply let go.
+1 for the Moog recommendation as they have zerk fittings allowing you to grease/lube seasonally
Can anyone tell what mine are stock replacements, aftermarket, later design? Mine look to have been changed in the rear. A shiny metal or aluminum. Are mine the good style not known to break like the OP's?
Whelp, the new ones failed just like the old ones. As I was putting on the new yet again links, I loosened the sway bar to see if I could line the bar up better but no dice.
The sway bar that is on there does have a part number on it (10283944) which comes up as a C5 rear stabilizer bar but it doesn't look like any others I have seen online with that part number. Mine has all sorts of bends in it compared to the ones online. My other two C5s don't have the stock sway bars so I can't compare but I do know this, those two C5's sway bars line up way better than the sway bar I'm working on. I think member lionelhutz has the right opinion "It almost looks like the bar is upside down or has some issue" so I'm going to take the sway bar off to see if it can somehow correct it but as of now, I don't think I can get it to line up, at least I can't imagine it doing that. If not, I'll probably cough up the $ on a used sway bar that doesn't look like this one.
The angle of the end link looks off. When the suspension is unloaded I believe it tends to angle towards the front of the car. Maybe someone backed up the car into a concrete parking stop or some other hard object and hit the bar hard enough to slightly it.
I don't know if I'm the only one but...un-sprung weight on an old joint was bound to fail it its been up in the air for weeks Suspensions at full downward travel with the spring pulling the lower control arm down. She lived a good life Replace with a Moog Joint.

No.
I agree, the angle is off. The current rear sway bar has a stock number on it that directly links it to the C5 but it doesn't look anything like the rear sway bars I've seen online for the C5. The current rear sway bar is really curvy but has no damage at all.

Joe
It is only in the air so I can remove/replace the end links easier than when the car is one the ground, especially since it's lowered. The broken end links weren't old, in fact, they were brand new. To remedy the problem, I purchased a used rear sway bar. It should arrive any day now. I'll post results soon.
God I miss driving that car. My Employer has 400 hp but it's just not the same as a 620 hp C5

Perhaps lay the new and old bars together for a pic. Also, did you measure the diameter?

Ignore the finger and knee
The left one is the one I purchased on line and the right is the one that came off my car. I do believe the one I purchased online should work just fine. I probably should have just upgraded both front and rear sway bars
