Default Swapping PCM, anything besides disconnecting Battery?

Going to swap out the PCM with a reprogrammed replacement... Do I need to do anything besides disconnect the battery, pull the passenger wheel, and undo the panel?

Thanks,

F

The following must be performed anytime the PCM is replaced:
Program the PCM
The PCM Password Learn Procedure
The Idle Learn Procedure
The Oil Life reset procedure
The Functional Check

It is important to remove any debris from the PCM connector surfaces before servicing the PCM. Inspect the PCM module connector gaskets when replacing the PCM. Ensure that the gaskets are installed correctly as the gaskets prevent contaminate intrusion into the PCM.

It is also important that you not touch the connector pins or soldered components on the circuit board in order to prevent electrostatic discharge damage to the PCM.

Thanks Bill.

This PCM was programmed with my cars VIN. What do I need to do with regard to the PCM password learn procedure?

What is the functional check?

Thanks,

F

Just disconnect the plugs of the wiring harness, but the PCM sits in a plastic frame mount and slides out forward, this damn thing looks like metal and very sturdy but it is not that sturdy and you can break a side off trying to slip it in and out, there is no room to work in the hole. If I ever have to change mine out again I will see how much trouble it would be to remove the front fender. The wires are a little hard to get too etc. I broke my mounting frame discovered it was plastic, super glued it back and it works great with no prob. This is not a hard job its just a PITA.

PCM password learn procedure (without Tech2):

It is important to maintain the battery voltage while the PCM is in the Auto Learn Procedure. Follow this procedure exactly or you will have to repeat the procedure from the beginning.

Performing the following procedure causes a DTC P1630 to set when you complete the procedure. This is intentional. When P1630 sets, turn off the ignition for 30 sec., then turn on the ignition and P1630 clears.

Turn on the ignition leaving the engine off for 11 minutes.
Turn off the ignition for 30 sec.
Turn on the ignition leaving the engine off for 11 minutes or until P1630 sets.
Turn off the ignition for 30 sec.
Turn on the ignition leaving the engine off and wait 30 sec.
Attempt to start engine.

If the engine starts:
Clear the PCM DTC’s
Turn off the ignition for 30 sec.
Attempt to start engine.

If the engine starts and operates normally then everything is OK.

If the engine does not start and operate normally, you’ll need to check out whatever BCM related DTC’s have set.

The Functional Check:
Clear all DTC’s
Start the engine and run for 1 minute.
Check for DTC’s

As NEPTUNEBILL says, be careful with dealing with the PCM plastic frame :yesnod:

HELP!!!!

Did the above VATS relearn procedure, and I still have not set that code. I have the P1631 code which says the password is incorrect  , but can't get it into the relearn sequence.

UPDATE: Procedure that worked: Ignition in on postion until security lite goes out (10 minutes). Off position 30 sec. On again until security lite goes out, off 30 seconds, on again until lite goes out. Key off, wait 30 secs, start car.

Everything is fine now :)
