Default Tick after cam upgrade

I just installed a BTR stage 2 cam in my 99'. The engine has 85K miles on it. Prior to the upgrade it had a tick that would occur on cold start after the engine sat for a while. My guess is it's a stuck lifter that eventually loosens up when the oil warms up. The tick would go away after running the engine at full temp. The tick is now noticeably louder. Is this expected because of the higher lift with the new cam? Or should I be alarmed and investigate before running the engine again?

FWIW, the old cam looked fine on inspection.

Here's a video of the first start. I only ran it for about 60 seconds. Looking for feedback from any experienced engine guys out there. Do you hear anything alarming? Or should I proceed to let her idle longer and get up to full temp? Thanks for listening.

So this is a cam only install? Oil pressure is good? Do you have a stethoscope?

I installed a new oil pump and timing chain set as well. Oil pressure was good, came right up on first start. I do have a stethoscope, but not much experience using it.

Push rods are new. Trunion upgrade on the rocker arms. New springs.

Lifters require the heads to come off. New heads will happen, but not this year.

How loud is the tick? Pain in the butt, but it would be interesting to see if lifter preload was the same across the board. I’d think it better to be a little tick-y than over preloaded.

If it had a sticky lifter before and now it's preloaded into a different position it may be extra sticky now, assuming the lifter was gummed up and the plunger is wedged against said gunk clinging to the interior wall of the lifter body. You might try some Marvel Mystery Oil to see if you can get the lifters clean. Of course the best way is to remove and disassemble them, but I can understand not wanting to go through lifting heads just for that.

I would agree

BUT He did Bushings in the Rockers as well and new push rods.
Any thing could be wrong including incorrect adjustment.

Why guys Pull roller bearings and install bushing beyond me?????
Its Just STUPID!

I know the fear "The rocker could fail and put metal in the pan".OMG!!!!.. Ya well a the failure rate ot roller lifters is like 4x that of rocker arms seriously!

Ya wanna go go back to a flat lifter cam too? .
You all read to much Hot rob Magazine and believe all the Parroted BS by people who have No clue
