Default Outer window swipe

My drivers side outer window sweep is loose and I have ordered a replacement. In looking at the instructions on both corvette central and youtube, I have a question. Is it really necessary to remove the door panel for the outer sweep. From what I can see there is only one screw which is easily accessed towards the front of the door. Once removed the entire sweep slides back until released by the tabs in the slotted holes. Since the outer sweeps are actually on the outside of the window it seems removing the panel isn't necessary.

Any input?

THANKS

I had to remove the door panel. The receiving slots on the door are thin and very fragile; to remove, tap the trim back lightly and not too far. I had to repair two broken slots with epoxy then sand the openings to size, they might have been broken from assembly at the factory. The replacements from RockAuto turned out to be a better quality than the originals though. Here's what the broken slots look like with some epoxy before sanding to shape, they go from a large slot to a smaller one to retain the trim pins so as the trim is pushed back into place it's held there in the smaller slot. The difficulty is keeping all the trim pins pushed into the door at the same time as the new trim is moved back into place. The trim pins are also prone to breakage if too much force is used.
