You don't. But like me, you wish you did. From what I think I understand, you'll need the correct column and then program that into the BCM with a TechII or Chineseum variant thereof.
I found this on an old forum. Someone asked if was feasible to swap a telescoping column into their Z. Sounds like a wee bit of work…
First, the telescopic steering column is needed, correct seat control module, door control module, and the rewiring of the harness between the column, door control module, and the seat control module.
The switch is powered by the seat control module, as is the memory function.
Now, C303, is the 8 pin connection going from the seat to the column. You must add a few wires and terminals here, to make the system work. There wires must be run with the factory harness and spliced correctly.
Given that, you should do just fine.
