Default A "Service ABS" / C1226 query

Hi, hoping someone can give me their thoughts on the below, please. For reference, the car in question is a 2002 coupe, auto.

I started the car today, drove it for about 30 seconds and then got warnings on the dash for "Service Traction Control", "Service ABS" and "Service Active Handling". I've pulled the codes and got a C1226 (Problem with the front passenger side wheel speed sensor), which would certainly explain those error messages.

I've not driven the car much in the last month and the most recent time was probably only about a minute or two because I heard a squeaking from the front that I wanted to investigate. With little recent use and the really short trip the time before, could a low battery voltage be any sort of factor in it being upset? I haven't checked with a multimeter yet but hope to do so tomorrow.

Alternate thought, I pressure-washed the car the day before, could that be a potential factor? Or is it just one of those things and neither is likely to have played any part in the timing, please?!

Many thanks for any input.

You may have a water intrusion issue with the wheel speed sensor connector...I'd disconnect it and check.

Thanks, Rob. I should have some time this weekend so will hopefully find it then .

A quick look on Youtube suggests it's a case of jack up the car and remove the wheel. Not sure yet if I'd need to remove anything from the brakes too or if just the wheel will be sufficient.

You should see the connectors with just the wheel removed. There is a connector on a wire just a few inches away from the wheel hub and another about 2-3 foot along the wire connecting to the engine harness.

Is there a trick to disconnecting the shorter (dongle?) cable from the car at the chassis end, please? I’ve undone the connectors both ends but at the non-wheel end the housing bit rotates but doesn’t want to come free. I’ve not wanted to force it in case there was something else that needed doing first! Hopefully that makes sense 🙂.

I’ll try and upload a picture.

Top left!

The top-left most part of the image. The cable is now disconnected at the wheel end but at the other end I've managed to unclip the connectors but not sure how to free up the other end of the short dongle cable. As mentioned, not wanting to force it unless/until someone advises me that that is all it needs!

Any help/advice with how to achieve it would be appreciated! Thank you.
