Default Oil Temp Sensor Fitement Issue

I bought a project corvette and am removing the leaking oil cooler for now, but I'm having trouble with the oil temperature sensor. I bought the block off for the oil cooler and a new sensor, but the sensor doesn't seem to thread all the way as it hits the bottom. The holder is genuine GM, and I tried two different sensors and they were both the same (One GM and one AC Delco) Any suggestions?

Add a couple of brass washers as the extra thickness will allow the sensor to fully seat and the brass will "crush" enough to seal properly.

What are the part numbers for the block off plate and temperature sensor that you're using?

Dug mine out from the parts bin. Might just be the angles, but the neck of your block off plate looks a little shorter.

If this is an NPT thread, adding washers may prevent the threads from sealing properly. Something in OPs 2 parts doesn't look right. Perhaps a better solution would be to ensure 100% parts compatibility, and if that's correct, he could install a short NPT bushing. Something just doesn't look correct, like they don't play well with each other. Hopefully nobody has run a tap in there too deep, which would allow any sender to screw in farther..

Wow - I went through the same exact issue you’re reporting.

I too had a leaking oil cooler and decided to scrap the cooler and bought the block off plate from my local GM dealership. They were the cheapest I could find.

I was able to torque down the sensor into the block off plate on the engine. It probably bent slight inside but it went in and works with no issues.

if you don’t have comfort doing what I did, go back to the GM dealer and show them. I believe the temp sensor they have for the later model corvette could be shorter and the original C5 block off plates are slightly longer which most likely is discontinued…

Is the oil temp sensor ACDelco? If it is Standard brand, I have tried several of those. They just won't work!
