Need help!! I installed a new Stereo head unit in my 1997 c5 corvette and now the dash and everything comes up as normal but when you try to start nothing. I have tested ignition switch. key is sending correct info out of lock cyl. Can send power to anti theft relay (purple and white wire) and engine will start and die so i know the starter is good.
Anything would help thanks.
What would cause loss of comms to BCM just from a radio head unit???

The serial data line goes to the original radio. If you hook it up to the wrong thing (like, ground...) it kills basically the whole car. Lots of modules use the same circuit for talking. Like party line telephone. Did you do anything with the green or orange data lines? Disconnect them or the whole new radio and try again. May even need to disconnect battery to reset, not sure.
Double checked wiring. I ordered the pigtail specifically for this car.
Orange and green data wires are blank on the aftermarket female plug, so I couldn’t have wired them to anything.
Did you try after disconnecting new radio? Again after disconnecting adapter harness? Again after reconnect original radio?
First thing is get the car working again. Thunder is correct, you could have pinched or pulled some other wires not radio related. Don't worry, happens to the best of us. If you are still "no start" with the original radio and wiring back in place, we can rule out the new radio and wiring at least.
Have there been other mods done, previous owner? Sometimes you accidentally open a can of worms doing something simple like what should be a "plug and play" radio kit
Alright so I have made some headway!
Purchased refurbished BCM did the relearn procedure everything works, Windows, trunk etc
Car still won’t start has codes for pass key
I can power probe purple and white wire on vats relay and car starts and runs perfect!
Any info on what would be wrong? I have verified the correct ohms are coming out of the lock cyl for the factory Vats system that used to work on the car

Are you sure you followed the relearn procedure right and is this how you did it?
Disable the headlights, daytime running lights; turn off the radio, etc., in short cut the power to all lights and accessories. This is to prevent battery power drain. Battery should be FULLY CHARGED before this procedure begins.
1. Turn on the key for 11 minutes.
2 Turn off the key for 30 seconds.
3. Repeat 1&2 two more times.
4. Turn on the key for 30 seconds.
This is what I found from a search. From Bill Curlee and blownbluez06.
BCM Relearn Reprogram Program
I did a search on this and came up with some results but it wasn't as easy to find as I would've liked, so I wanted to post up with the key words in the title so that others can find it more easily.
Bill Curlee posted up the procedure in the thread that I found, but I would also like to provide more detail to hopefully make it easier on members trying this in the future.
Credit to Bill for this part:
Do this before you worry about VATS issues:
1. Turn on the key for 11 minutes.
2 Turn off the key for 30 seconds.
3. Repeat 1&2 two more times.
4. Turn on the key for 30 seconds.
My comments:
Pull your DTC's and you should see a P1631
To further support that you need to program the BCM, the security light will flash 3 times and then remain steady and not go off.
When the BCM is programmed, the security light goes off within seconds on turning the key on. If it remains on, do the following:
Turn key on for 11 minutes. At close to that time, the security light will go off. When it does......
Turn key off for 30 seconds
Turn the key back on. Security light comes back on. Stays on for ~10-11 minutes and when it goes off, turn the key off for another 30 seconds.
Turn the key back on and watch the security light. If the security light goes off within a few seconds, you’re done.
If you retrieve your DTC's afterward, You should see a P1630H. That means the BCM entered learn mode and the H means it's a history code and no longer in learn mode.
